On January 23rd local time in Switzerland, the annual Davos China Night was held in the small town of Davos. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Director of the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission Xiao Yaqing, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Li Xiaojia, former President of the IMF Zhu Min, and others attended the meeting. Song Zhiping, Chairman and Party Secretary of China National Building Materials Group, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a speech.

     Dear leaders and friends:

Hello everyone! Just now, a guest jokingly mentioned that the company mentioned later is a small company. We are a state-owned enterprise, and in fact, Director Xiao Yaqing often says that our state-owned enterprise has an important task of serving private enterprises well. Today at China Night, I would like to share three of my reflections during my time at the Davos Forum.

The first lament: China's weight is so significant at the Davos Forum

I first participated in the Davos Conference 22 years ago in 1997 as a member of the government delegation. At that time, there were very few Chinese participants, only 5 people. At that time, I remember looking up at the venue, it was all foreigners, and at this Davos conference, there were nearly 300 Chinese attendees, accounting for about 10% of the total number of attendees. This time, Director Xiao Yaqing of the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission brought the heads of our 11 central enterprises to attend the conference, which was also very eye-catching. In the venue, Chinese people can be seen everywhere, and every forum has Chinese keynote speakers. What so many of us are doing is to communicate and exchange ideas with the world, to tell the story of China clearly. Nowadays, we almost speak to an average of nine foreigners per person, and this effort is very strong and the effect is also very good. My overall feeling is that China has such a significant presence at the Davos Forum, and this annual meeting has become a meeting for communication between China and the world, with very good results. Just now Director Xiao Yaqing said, "I will still attend next year's Davos annual meeting." I am quite happy to hear that. I am 63 years old this year and I will strive to come again next year.

The second lament: After coming out, the Chinese delegation has become so united

Today, there are central enterprises, local state-owned enterprises, private enterprises, as well as officials, scholars, and media friends who come to participate in the China Night. For so many years, there have been people exaggerating that the country is advancing and the people are retreating, as if state-owned enterprises are always bullying private enterprises. However, the actual situation is that state-owned enterprises and private enterprises share the same industry and value chain, and our cooperation is enjoyable and harmonious. Just now, Guo Guangchang talked about cooperation with Chinese medicine. Looking back now, we have been cooperating for ten years. At the beginning, the sales revenue of Sinopharm was only over 30 billion yuan, but it has reached 400 billion yuan last year, demonstrating the advantages of mixed ownership. In fact, the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) has always encouraged central enterprises to support and serve the development of private enterprises, to help them overcome difficulties, and to achieve "common progress among the people" and "one family for the people". Especially when we go global, both state-owned and private enterprises are a family. Wherever we go, state-owned and private enterprises often come to the airport to pick us up. Together, they form China's overseas army. I feel that the unity of the Chinese group after coming out confirms the ancient Chinese saying "all four seas are brothers". When we go out, we must unite to do things.

The third emotion: The world needs us so much

Davos is the global village, and the world needs us so much that no one can stop our communication and cooperation. Chinese enterprises need to cooperate with multinational corporations, and multinational corporations also need to cooperate with Chinese enterprises. Cooperation is the main theme of this conference, and we spent the past two days in Davos in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Multinational companies are eager to communicate with us, and many people have found us on the list. Multinational companies have lined up to have one-on-one communication with us and have also signed many cooperation agreements. In conversations with CEOs of multinational corporations, not only did they discuss business, but they also talked about family matters and made friends. We and multinational corporations have both heard each other's stories clearly and further understood each other's concerns. Our cooperation with multinational corporations is close and inseparable. Multinational corporations hope to cooperate with Chinese companies, and Chinese companies cannot do without multinational corporations. Trade protectionists now advocate living behind closed doors, but wouldn't it be better for everyone to work together. Globalization is not an abstract slogan, nor is it a simple interest relationship. Globalization is built on people's understanding and trust, which may be the true meaning of hosting the Davos Forum. The Davos Forum is a platform for global cooperation and exchange among enterprises. Today is China's Night. If I had to say one thing, it is that Davos has now become a platform for communication between China and the world.
